Senior ATO officer joins Macpherson Kelley’s tax team
National law firm Macpherson Kelley has further strengthened its tax practice with the appointment of a senior executive officer from the Australian Taxation Office.
Carlos Barros joins the firm as a Senior Associate.
It’s the latest hire for Macpherson Kelley’s tax team which has grown significantly in the past three years. Led by Principal Lawyer Prath Balasubramaniam, the Victorian team now comprises three Senior Associates and several lawyers.
“Carlos will play a key role in our ATO settlements, disputes and litigation practice and will be a valuable resource for our SME and multi-national clients and professional services network,” Prath said.
“The ATO continues to strengthen its compliance approach to cross border investment, property groups, the use of company funds (or “Division 7A”), trusts and wealth-extraction tax avoidance schemes.”
Carlos, who has previously worked at top- and mid-tier accounting firms, as well as a boutique legal practice, joins Macpherson Kelley’s Melbourne office.
Macpherson Kelley CEO Steve Parker said: “With the ATO taking a more focused approach to compliance, well-informed planning is crucial and Macpherson Kelley is well-positioned to do so.”
