Michael is a highly experienced litigation and dispute resolution lawyer who has acted for a number of national and international corporations in commercial dispute matters as well in regulatory matters for and against the ACCC, ASIC and the ATO. Whilst Michael has a broad expertise, over recent years he has developed a strong expertise in the areas of financial services, fraud and managing complex commercial litigation matters.
Michael is also renowned for his strategic advice, crucial to success in complex litigation. Additionally, he provides advice to many individuals and boards on corporate governance and strategy issues, such expertise gained from his time in private practice at DLA Piper and as a senior in-house corporate lawyer at Toyota Australia.
Michael has also successfully co-founded an award winning boutique law firm, KHQ Lawyers. Commenced in 2006, with others he developed the firm from a start-up to a multi-million dollar business operating in three states. In 2014, the firm was selected as a finalist in the BRW’s Best Law Firm category. In 2014, the firm was also named a finalist in the Law Institute of Victoria’s Law Firm of the Year Award along with King & Wood Mallesons, Herbert Smith Freehills and Minter Ellison.
Complimenting this, Michael has served on a number of for-profit and not-for profit boards in the health, building, legal and sporting sectors. He has also served on the National Executive of Macpherson Kelley.

Acting in the Federal Court in relation to the proposed $3.5b acquisition by various parties of a 35% shareholding in the Loy Yang A Power Station.
Acting in Supreme Court proceedings on behalf of a corporate group in relation to the recovery of $200m of funds.
Acting in a Federal and High Court proceeding in relation to the successful execution of an Anton Pillar order (included constitutional matters).
Acting in Federal Court proceedings in a section 45A petroleum price fixing action.
