Tim practices in the areas of corporate and commercial law acting for SME’s (in many cases 3 and 4th generation family businesses with turnovers of up to $500m); corporate and personal insolvencies; and not for profits. SME’s are challenged by governance, risk, restructure and succession issues. Corporations and individuals face liquidity and solvency issues from time to time. Not for Profits also face governance, stakeholder and trust issues. Tim has practised in all these areas for many years and brings an expertise acquired through dealing with matters in all these areas on a regular basis, often in urgent situations.

In the past 3 years one client has been on an acquisition spree and has acquired 10 businesses for sale prices of between $1m and $30m. In many cases this has been coupled with the retention and gradual exit of a founding owner, leading to extra complications.
Promoters forget that a business partnership is like a marriage and when it sours exit arrangements need to be negotiated or litigated. Dealt with several of these matters, resolved by negotiation. As well family businesses face succession issues and I have dealt with several of these in the last 12 months.
Acted on one corporate insolvency which led to the successful promotion of a Deed of Company Arrangement and am currently working on the restructure of a listed mining company through DOCA’s and a Members Trust.
Recently advised on the restructure of one of the largest veteran charities in NSW and am currently advising several charitable trusts on governance and interpretation issues.
