Macpherson Kelley expands Brisbane office and secures new Principal Lawyer for Sydney

Macpherson Kelley has welcomed the start of 2019 by significantly boosting its Brisbane office with four new lawyers, including two Special Counsel, and strengthened its Sydney team with a new Principal Lawyer.

“Brisbane and Queensland has been a real success story for Macpherson Kelley with significant growth over the last couple of years in particular. Our reputation for service and delivering outcomes is seeing significant growth in client demand,” Chief Executive Steve Parker said.

Peter Griffin, Special Counsel, and Ainsley O’Keefe, Associate, are joining Macpherson Kelley’s national Private Clients team, focusing on Wills and Estates. Peter previously had his own firm in Brisbane while Ainsley worked at specialist succession and elder law firm Parsons Law on the Gold Coast.

“Our Wills and Estates team has a strong presence in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales and collaborate to provide effective succession planning strategies across Australia,” Steve said.

The Brisbane office has also welcomed to the firm’s Commercial team Dylan Kerrigan, Special Counsel, who most recently was with Dentons in the UK, and lawyer Melissa Simpson, who has a tax background, and was previously at King & Wood Mallesons in Sydney.

Also starting in the Brisbane office in March are three Law Graduates who will spend 12 months rotating through the firm’s practice areas and develop commercial skills through Macpherson Kelley’s internal Business School.

The expansion in Brisbane has seen the firm occupy a second floor in its Queen Street office building in the CBD.

Joining the Sydney office in the Commercial team is new Principal Lawyer Jon Cane. Jon was a Partner at Allion Partners, a boutique advisory firm. He has 20 years’ experience in public and private mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures and capital raising.

“We anticipate corporate activity will be a growth area in Australia in coming years and Jon’s experience will be a significant asset for our clients seeking to merge or expand their businesses,” Steve said.
