Throughout his legal career, James Lovel has been ambitious and unafraid to provide bold advice to his clients on complex litigation matters. His strong commercial acumen has seen him head his own legal practice, act for several large companies and build meaningful relationships with clients across property development and real estate in particular.
James enjoys the granularity of complex litigation and the challenge of engaging quickly to provide concise advice and representation to clients to protect and advance their interests. James has specific expertise in franchising, taxation, trust, insurance and shareholder disputes, commercial loan disputes, injunctive relief, and property and lease disputes.
After concluding many litigious matters, James has been engaged by opposing clients who sought representation in the future. In the fiercely competitive world of litigation, there is no better marker of skill and excellent client service.

A Sydney-sider was duped into taking out a high interest loan from a lender of last resort to purchase an investment property in Queensland. Within months, the excessive interest rate caused the loan to fall into default. Without notice, the lender used a general power of attorney under the loan agreement to grant itself a mortgage over the Sydney-sider’s home and evicted the Sydney-sider by force. James acted for the Sydney-sider in urgently invoking the cross-vesting jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Queensland and successfully obtain an injunction returning the Sydney-sider to his home and for the removal of the mortgage over the home.
A company paralysed by a deadlock among its directors and shareholders was the victim of misappropriation by one of its directors and shareholders. James acted for another shareholder of the company in successfully freezing the wrongdoer’s assets and tracing and recovering the misappropriated money through a derivative proceeding.
