Australia releases new Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) on 3 December 2024
The Australian Government has announced the release of the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).
The new CSOL seeks to fulfil the Government’s aim to replace the over complicated, inflexible, and outdated occupation lists in the current temporary skilled visa program – which have not been updated since March 2019.
What is Australia’s new CSOL?
The new CSOL presents as a single consolidated list that provides access to temporary skilled migration for 456 occupations. The list is informed by analysis of the labour market and stakeholder consultations by Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA). The government has added a number of trades occupations to the list in response to Australia’s housing shortage.
What does the change signal?
The release of the new CSOL is a precursor to further major reform taking place this weekend on 7 December 2024, including the Skills in Demand visa and National Innovation visa. The new CSOL applies to the Core Skills stream of the new Skills in Demand visa, which will replace the Temporary Skills Shortage (subclass 482) visa on 7 December 2024. It will also apply to the Direct Entry stream of the permanent Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa.
