Growing up in a family innovation business, Colin Hanns has first-hand insight into the issues faced by start-ups, small-to-medium sized businesses and what keeps their owners up at night.

As a member of the Intellectual Property (“IP”) and Trade team, Colin applies this experience to bring innovative and commercial thinking to the problems clients face. Colin has worked on IP matters in Australia, the US and Asia. He has particular experience in the areas of fashion and media & arts law, bringing a wealth of experience in managing intangible assets.

“I see IP as a useful tool.  On the one hand I enjoy the technical strategy involved in crafting the tool and protection itself, but to get a return on investment you also need to use it properly and not let it rust or use it incorrectly and damage it.”

Colin helps clients use IP in managing their customer experience, funds acquisition, market share positioning, protecting competitive advantages within their marketing mix, business intelligence and more.

He builds long-term relationships and works closely with clients to create and manage IP as a budgeted part of their daily business. Colin also volunteers at 4ZZZ radio station- assisting with a range of media law and art law enquiries.
