Jason Chan is a lawyer in Macpherson Kelley’s Intellectual Property team, with experience advising clients across intellectual property, technology and regulatory compliance matters. His focus is on helping clients protect and maximise the value of their intellectual assets, particularly in the life sciences, technology and retail sectors.
Jason advises on the protection, commercialisation and enforcement of intellectual property rights in Australia and internationally. His experience includes securing and managing trade mark portfolios, supporting global filing strategies, and enforcing IP rights, including in relation to infringement and brand protection matters. He also assists clients with technology and data regulatory issues, including privacy and data protection compliance, AI governance and responding to data breaches. He supports clients navigating regulatory and commercial risk in the deployment of new technologies and data‑driven business models.
During his time in house at a large Australian retailer, Jason worked closely with internal stakeholders on intellectual property strategy, regulatory compliance and risk management within a complex commercial environment.
He holds a science degree in biochemistry, which underpins his ability to advise on technically complex matters, particularly in the life sciences sector. This background enables him to translate scientific and technical concepts into clear, practical legal advice aligned with clients’ commercial objectives. Jason is currently an ambassador for the Brisbane Junior Chamber of Commerce
