significant matters

  • Family Business Succession

Lucie assisted a multi-generational family who owned a construction and crane business with their estate and succession planning. She developed a comprehensive plan to ensure a smooth transition of ownership across generations, including educating the children on the business structure and guiding the eventual handover of interests. The plan was necessarily complex to meet the family’s needs, but Lucie delivered it with clarity and empathy, ensuring all parties understood and were comfortable with the process.

  • Complex Business and Trust Structures

Not all estate plans are straightforward. Lucie worked with a prominent second-generation family business where the succession plan involved a combination of inter vivos trusts, personal investment assets and SMSF assets. She designed a strategy that addressed all these layers while ensuring the family’s wealth and business interests were protected for the future.

  • Blended Family Planning

Lucie supported clients from a blended family with highly complex estate planning needs. After multiple attempts with other lawyers, the clients had struggled to find a strategy that worked for everyone. Challenges included an adult child with a disability, another with addiction issues and vulnerability, overseas assets, multiple trusts and different numbers of children from each marriage and of the union. Lucie developed a tailored plan that achieved all the clients’ goals, giving them peace of mind that every family member was cared for and their inheritances protected.

  • Prominent Family Business Succession

Lucie was engaged by a prominent QLD family to create a succession plan for the transfer of control of their business and assets to the next generation. The work required a deep understanding of family dynamics, protecting wealth from potential claims and coordinating multiple commercial elements, including protective trusts, superannuation, business structuring and tax considerations. Lucie’s approach ensured a seamless, secure transition while meeting the family’s objectives.
