Read Time 0 mins reading time

Recent important changes in property law have gone largely unnoticed, following the recent focus on rent relief and managing COVID.

This virtual discussion group reviews legislative changes and discusses the impact on our landlord and tenant clients.

On 15 September 2020, the Retail Leases Amendment Bill 2019 (Vic) (“Bill”) was passed by the Victorian Parliament which amended the Retail Leases Act 2003 (Vic) and the Building Act 1993 (Vic). As a result, the the Retail Leases Amendment Act 2020 (Vic) (“Act”) came into force on 1 October 2020.

These changes have implications for:

  • essential safety measures;
  • disclosure statements;
  • early rent review;
  • cooling off periods; and
  • security deposits.
