Macpherson Kelley is proud to receive the silver award for Best Overall Program in the SME category in the 2022 Australian Workplace Giving Awards.

Macpherson Kelley was one of two law firms recognised at this year’s awards, which is open to small businesses through to national retailers and banks – the one common denominator being their staff contribute to workplace giving or grant programs.

“I am very proud of what has been achieved and delivered for our chosen charities and for our staff,” said Macpherson Kelley Director and Foundation Chair Paul Kirton.

“It is so important that we can provide a workplace giving structure that brings our staff together, gives purpose and builds on our inclusive and supportive culture. Being recognised tells us that we are on the right path.”

Born out of the passion and vision of Jo Hastings and Founding Chair, Damian Paul in 2016, Macpherson Kelley Foundation has been the vehicle for a strategic and inclusive approach to community giving. The Foundation has positively impacted many causes and lives in a manner that reflects the values of the firm.

Through the workplace giving program, Macpherson Kelley staff can donate part of their pre-tax salary to a pool matched dollar-for-dollar by the firm. Funds are then granted to the Foundation’s Community Partners, who are chosen by employees, annually.

In addition to this effort, the Macpherson Kelley Foundation has conducted special, one-off appeals for national and worldwide disasters, health and humanitarian crises. For example, providing water purification plants to refugee camps on the Ukraine border, providing food and support to victims of floods and fires in Australia and assisting with the evacuation of orphaned children from Afghanistan.

“No workplace giving program would succeed without buy-in from our employees. This is their workplace giving program and it is their commitment and support that has resulted in this award,” said Paul Kirton.

This is the seventh year the Australian Workplace Giving Awards ceremony has been held by industry body, Workplace Giving Australia, with broad support from across the business and charity sectors. The Awards were judged by a prestigious panel of independent experts from across Australia.
