Macpherson Kelley is pleased to announce 13 promotions effective 1 July including the promotion of James Garrett and Kara Thornton to Special Counsel. The firm has also recently welcomed Nicole Treacey who has joined the Brisbane office practising in Commercial and Wills and Estates.

Kara Thornton has been with Macpherson Kelley since December 2015 and has made an outstanding contribution to the firm as a senior lawyer, delivering high-quality legal advice to clients. She is a trusted adviser, with strong technical and analytical skills and invariably displays professionalism and integrity in the way she engages with clients and colleagues alike.

James Garrett, also joining the firm in 2015, has been a key contributor to Dandenong’s Commercial team. His experience covers a broad range of industry sectors however he has a strong client base across financial services, food and beverage and manufacturing where businesses are looking to buy or sell. James’ positive outlook and outstanding work ethic have been key components to his success thus far, qualities that will surely complement his new leadership role.

“James and Kara have achieved great success by putting their clients first. Their collaborative approach both with their clients and colleagues sets them apart as leaders within the firm. I want to congratulate them on this exciting next step in their career,” said National Managing Principal Lawyer Grant Guenther.

Kara and James are joined by Katerina Petkovska, Stella Gehrckens, Lachie Beeston, Ashleigh Pearse, Nick Lavanda and Lachlan Yule who have been promoted to Senior Associate and Josh Burland, Eliza-Jayne Sinclair, Isabella Stephenson, Ella Walters and Nik Verbeek who have been promoted to Associate.

“This has been our largest round of promotions since 2020, and it says a lot about the quality and commitment of lawyers working their way through the firm’s ranks. All of those promoted have made significant contributions to Macpherson Kelley and, as a firm that prioritises development and career progression, it’s been great to reflect on the talents of our people,” said Grant.

In addition to the most recent round of promotions, Nicole Treacey has been welcomed back to the Brisbane office, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge around Wills and Estates law. Specialising in business succession, Nicole has already hit the ground running adding invaluable knowledge and expertise for Commercial clients looking to structure and protect their wealth.

“One of the words that I always associate with Nicole is trust,” said Brisbane Managing Principal Lawyer Cathy Russo.

“The way that Nicole is able to connect on such a deep level with her clients is of immeasurable value for our Queensland clients, their business and personal lives.”
